Dallas Museum of Art's Center for Creative Connections Reopens in September After Flood Repairs

In September 2026, the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) will reopen its Center for Creative Connections (C3) after suffering significant damage due to a severe rainstorm in August 2022, which resulted in a collapsed ceiling and warped wooden floors. This 12,000-square-foot educational facility, which first opened its doors in 2008, is being renovated with a $6 million allocation from the city's 2022 Severe Weather and Flood Fund, approved by the Dallas City Council in January 2025. Enhancements include a new Art Lab equipped with a 3D printer and laser cutter, upgraded soundproofing and media equipment in the 82-seat theater, and a revamped play area for toddlers called Arturo's Nest. Two exhibitions will debut in September: "Rhythms on Repeat," showcasing 50 pieces from artists such as Pablo Picasso, Romare Bearden, and Roberto Lugo (available until 2029), and "Pattern Play," an interactive work by local sculptor Jessica Bell (on view until 2027). A free public event with live music and artist discussions is planned for September 19–20. Brian Ferriso, the DMA's director, reaffirmed the museum's dedication to education and accessibility, while Stacey Lizotte, Chief Learning Officer for C3, noted the importance of the space in nurturing creative connections.
