Dali Museum uses AI to resurrect Salvador Dalí as digital avatar
The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, has launched 'Dali Lives', a project using artificial intelligence to create a digital double of Salvador Dalí. The AI was trained on hundreds of interviews, videos, and archival materials to replicate the artist's face, voice, and expressions. The digital avatar is superimposed on an actor's body, functioning as an educational deepfake. The installation will be available from April 2019, exactly 30 years after Dalí's death on January 23, 1989. The project fulfills Dalí's famous quote, 'If I die, I will not die completely.'
