Dakar Biennale 2022: Forging a New African Consciousness

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The 14th Dakar Biennale, named 'Ĩ NDAFFA,' is set to continue until June 21, 2022, having been delayed from its original 2020 schedule due to the pandemic. With backing from the Senegalese government, the event draws in collectors and visitors from around the globe. Artistic director El Hadji Malick Ndiaye encourages a deep dive into African traditions and local wisdom. The primary exhibition, 'Ĩ Ndaffa #/ Forger/Out of the fire,' located at Dakar's former Palace of Justice, showcases works from 59 artists, prominently featuring South Africa (8), Senegal (7), Cuba (5), and the US (4). Additionally, the Centre Culturel Blaise Senghor presents 'Africa: la Renaissance en marche' with seven artists, while the Biennale Off includes a photographic display from May 19 to June 5, with Italy participating via the IT Out OFF the Ordinary initiative.
