Dakar Biennale 2016 Opens with Security and Curatorial Depth
The Dakar Biennale, Africa’s premier biennial art event, is currently being held in Dakar, Senegal. Launched in 1996, this year’s edition features the theme 'La Cité dans le jour bleu.' Swiss curator Simon Njami leads the main exhibition, which spans various carefully secured venues throughout the city. Among the participating artists are Anne Historical, Kader Attia, and Jems Robert Koko Bi. The curatorial team includes figures from Spain, Brazil, Italy, and India. Despite facing some logistical hurdles, the biennale seeks to highlight the works of African artists and those from the diaspora. The event continues until July 11, 2016.
