Dafydd Jones Captures 40 Years of Cambridge May Balls in New Photo Book
Dafydd Jones has just put out a new book called 'Cambridge Balls', which captures four decades of May Week celebrations at Cambridge University, from 1981 to 2025. This collection follows his earlier release, 'Oxford: The Last Hurrah', and is filled with black-and-white images that highlight balls, garden parties, and punting events marking the end of the academic year. Jones started his journey documenting the May Balls in 1981 with a simple Olympus camera, initially focusing on gatecrashers at Trinity College. He observed significant changes, such as Magdalene College’s attendance climbing from 500 in 1981 to 1,500 in 2025, the integration of women in previously male-only colleges, and a rise in international student diversity. The book, featuring notable figures like David Cameron, will be out on 7 May in the UK and 26 May in the US, published by ACC Art Books.
