Daddy Issues exhibition at Copenhagen's Gammel Strand explores paternal trauma through contemporary and historical works

The exhibition Daddy Issues at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen delves into the theme of imperfect father figures, showcasing artworks spanning from antiquity to 2026. Notable pieces include Niki de Saint Phalle's 1973 film Daddy, Amelie von Wulffen's 2024 painting I Think We Did a Great Job, and a plaster cast of a stone phallus dating back to 400–200 BCE. Artists such as Kim Richard Adler Mejdahl, Robert Carter, Adam Christensen, and Markus Öhrn reflect on experiences with alcoholic fathers and divorce. Additionally, Tracey Emin's 1996 film Emin & Emin and Beth Collar's 2017 sculpture Dad with a tummy upset are part of the collection, along with Alexander Tovborg's 2026 work Pietá and Selma Selman's 2024 metal paintings. The exhibition is open until 3 May 2026.
