Cynthia Daignault's Conceptual Paintings Explore Art History and Community at Flag Art Foundation
From January 19 to May 13, 2017, the Flag Art Foundation in New York showcased Cynthia Daignault's exhibition, which comprised three distinct series of conceptual paintings. The most extensive series, titled 'There Is Nothing I Could Say That I Haven’t Thought Before' (2016–17), features small reproductions of works by artists such as Barbara Kruger and Charles Ray, focusing on intricate details. The second series, 'MoMA' (2017), reinterprets well-known canvases from the Museum of Modern Art into text-driven paintings inspired by Ed Ruscha. Lastly, 'The Certainty of Others' (2017) involved ten artists reimagining Daignault's floral still lifes. The exhibition, discussed in the April 2017 ArtReview, explores themes of community and control, echoing historical pieces like Duchamp's 'Boîte-en-valise.'
