Cy Twombly's Intimate Moments Captured by His Wife in New Photo Book
In 2022, Maia Twombly, granddaughter of Cy Twombly, discovered thousands of photo negatives in the attic of the Ronciglione house, taken by her grandmother Tatia Franchetti Twombly primarily in the 1950s and 1960s. The images show Cy Twombly relaxing candidly, revealing Tatia's artistic skill. Maia has published a book titled "Stella Honey" (Cy's term of endearment for Tatia) and a gallery show opens June 3 at Spazio Treccani Arte in Rome. Cy Twombly, known for his abstract paintings and assemblages, moved to Italy in 1957 after his relationship with Robert Rauschenberg ended. He married Tatia in 1959; they later separated but remained close. Cy died in 2011, Tatia in 2010.
