Curtis Institute's $25M Plan for Art Alliance Building After UArts Collapse

The Curtis Institute of Music has announced a $25 million renovation plan for the former Art Alliance building near Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia. The building, previously owned by the University of the Arts, was acquired by Curtis in January 2025 after UArts abruptly closed in 2024. The structure suffered significant fire damage on July 4, 2025, and repairs are currently underway. The conservatory intends to house its vocal and opera department in the renovated space, which will include a 2,900-square-foot rehearsal hall. The project reflects Curtis's expansion following the collapse of UArts, which had also occupied the building. The renovation is part of Curtis's broader efforts to accommodate its growing programs and preserve a historic cultural landmark in Philadelphia.
