Cursor launches India-specific subscription ahead of SpaceX acquisition

Cursor, an AI coding startup, has launched Cursor Start, a subscription priced at ₹649/month (~$7), marking its first tailored pricing for a specific country, India. This initiative arrives just weeks ahead of its anticipated acquisition by SpaceX, which is a $60 billion all-stock transaction expected to finalize in Q3. India ranks as Cursor's third-largest market, boasting a significant number of power users, and its user base has more than tripled in the last year. The subscription provides access to Cursor's Composer 2.5 model, Grok 4.5, cloud agents, an iOS app, and plugins, but does not include frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic or advanced features like Bugbot and Auto Mode. Billing will be conducted in Indian rupees, with UPI support, while measures are being taken to block VPN access. The startup is also expanding its presence in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, having recently hired its first salesperson in India. Simon Green, Cursor's head for Asia-Pacific and Japan, stated that the pricing strategy is commercially viable, leveraging Cursor's proprietary AI models. Green also mentioned that SpaceX's existing Starlink operations in India could facilitate a quicker expansion for Cursor after the acquisition.
