Curitiba to Host MAC Extension in 2025 as Part of Ambitious Innovation Hub
A new museum extension for the Museu de Arte Contemporânea (MAC) will open in Curitiba in 2025, housed within the historic Ambev brewery complex in the Rebouças neighborhood. This 6,492.86 m² satellite space for temporary exhibitions is a central component of the Fábrica de Ideias, a massive 35,000 m² technology and innovation hub backed by a 300 million reais investment from Audi do Brasil. The project, part of the state program Paraná Competitivo, will also include a new Museu da Comunicação e Inovação (1,577.36 m²), a 250-seat auditorium, and a gastronomic center named after urban planner Alfred Agache. The architectural retrofit of the century-old factory, a municipally registered preservation site, is designed by Ricardo Amaral Arquitetos Associados, with construction set to begin in early 2025. The initiative aims to juxtapose industrial heritage with future-facing technology, revitalizing a space unused since 2016. Meanwhile, the MAC's main building on Rua Cândido Lopes, a state heritage site inaugurated in 1970, remains closed for a stalled renovation that began in 2019; its collection of 1,800 contemporary works is currently housed at the Museu Oscar Niemeyer (MON).
