Curator Sara Dolfi Agostini on Activism and Art at Blitz Valletta

The 'Use from Below' exhibition at Blitz Valletta in Malta showcases the works of artists Ahmet Öğüt and Adelita Husni-Bey and will be open until November 30, 2019. Curated by Sara Dolfi Agostini, the exhibit explores the contrast between genuine activism and the distortions of social media. Key pieces include Öğüt's 'The Swinging Doors' (2009-19) and Husni-Bey's video installation 'Agency-Giochi di Potere' (2014). The title is inspired by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak's concept of 'use from below.' Founded by Alexandra Pace, Blitz Valletta is a non-profit venue recognized by the Art Basel Crowdfunding Initiative (2015) and the Tate Art Exchange Programme (2016). Upcoming exhibitions will feature Tobias Zielony in December 2019. Malta, a member of the EU since 2004, adopted the euro in 2008 and was the European Capital of Culture in 2018.
