Curated Image Dataset for Parasitoid Wasp Identification

Researchers have released a curated image dataset to improve automated identification of parasitoid wasps, focusing on the hyper-diverse superfamily Ichneumonoidea. The dataset, named DAPWH, contains 3,556 high-resolution images primarily of Neotropical Ichneumonidae and Braconidae, with supplementary families including Andrenidae, Apidae, Bethylidae, Chrysididae, Colletidae, Halictidae, Megachilidae, Pompilidae, and Vespidae. A subset of 1,739 images is specifically annotated. The work addresses the scarcity of digital resources for these taxonomically challenging groups, which are ecologically critical for regulating insect populations. The dataset is intended to advance automated identification systems for biodiversity monitoring and agricultural management.
