CURA BH 2021 Moves to Praça Raul Soares with Indigenous and Ancestral Art Focus

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

The Circuito Urbano de Arte (CURA) festival in Belo Horizonte has relocated from its iconic Rua Sapucaí viewpoint to Praça Raul Soares, the city's geographic center. This 2021 edition, which began on October 21, investigates the new territory as a crossroads of cultures. The festival's co-founders, Priscila Amoni, Juliana Flores, and Janaína Macruz, invited artists Naine Terena and Flaviana Lasan to join the curatorial team. The program includes painting three building facades, a ground mural on Avenida Amazonas, an urban installation, and an immersive experience in the square. The facade of Edifício Levy features healing chants by Kassia Rare Karaja and the Coletivo Mahku, while Edifício Paula Ferreira hosts a work by Ed-Mun inspired by Marajoara art. Mag Magrela was selected via an open call. The Giramundo puppet theater group created a new installation for the plaza's fountain. From October 29, a 24-hour ritual painting by Shipibo artists Sadith Silvano and Ronin Koshi will cover the Avenida Amazonas pavement. Between October 30 and November 2, Tainá Marajoara will lead a collective creation with Mayô Pataxó, Patrícia Brito, and Silvia Herval, focusing on ancestral foods and seed scattering. The festival aims to create an immersive artistic experience, positioning the audience at the center of the plaza.
