Cur'Arti opens first outpatient museum in Naples hospital
The first outpatient museum in Italy has opened at the CTO hospital in Naples, an initiative of the European network Cur'Arti to integrate art therapy into rehabilitation. The project, born from a 2020 thesis by surgeon Francesca Barrella, is recognized by the Ministry of Culture. Three rooms inaugurated in July 2024 are dedicated to therapy for people with autism, disabilities, Alzheimer's, and healthcare staff, funded by the Campania region's "Dall'ombra alla luce" grant. The museum features works from the Scuola Italiana di Comix, a collection of donated pieces by international artists, and a reproduction of Zehra Doğan's "Reheval" (original in Cur'Arti storage). A multisensory room includes a video by Todd Williamson, fiber optics, and a bubble tube. Cur'Arti has expanded to the ASL 2 of Naples and to the Tito Livio-Fiorelli school, with a second museum at the University of Naples Parthenope. Future plans include a master's degree in art therapy with Parthenope, training for disabled guides (Ability-not Disability!), and collaborations with the Federico II University and the Order of Architects of Naples. The project aims to institutionalize art therapy in public spaces and produce scientific data.
