Cuocolo/Bosetti's 'Exhibition' Transforms Museum Visits into Psychogeographic Performances
Renato Cuocolo and Roberta Bosetti present 'Exhibition', the sixteenth chapter of their Interior Sites Project, a performance that reimagines museum visits as erratic, sentimental journeys. Using radio guides, small groups of twenty to twenty-five spectators are led by Bosetti through museum spaces, creating a 'psychogeography' that blends art history with personal memories. The performance debuted in July 2022 as an open rehearsal at Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza, designed by Palladio, as part of the We Art 3 project of Teatro Comunale di Vicenza. In November 2022, it premiered at Castello di Rivoli during the Festival delle Colline Torinesi, co-produced by IRAA Theatre, Nuovi Paesaggi Urbani, and Teatro di Dioniso, curated by Gaia Morrione. The performance then moved to Museo Borgogna in Vercelli from late November to early December 2022. Bosetti's text interweaves autobiography, novels, and references to artworks, including mentions of Balthus, Sophie Calle, Laurie Anderson, and Thomas Bernhard's 'Old Masters'. The performance questions whether art can save us from fragility. In 2022, 'Exhibition' will visit other Italian museums and will be available for paid download, allowing audiences to use Bosetti's voice as a guide in any gallery.
