CULTURED Editors Pick 15 Indie Films for Fall 2026
CULTURED magazine's editors have curated a selection of 15 independent and international films for the fall of 2026, coinciding with a diminished presence of major studios at Cannes, Venice, and TIFF. Among the highlighted films are: 'The History of Concrete' by John Wilson (Sept. 18), 'Primetime' featuring Robert Pattinson from Lance Oppenheim (Sept. 25), Cristian Mungiu's 'Fjord' (Oct. 9), 'Misty Green' by Chris Rock (Oct. 9), 'La Bola Negra' from Los Javis (Oct. 16), 'Once Upon a Time in Harlem' by William and David Greaves (Oct. 19), 'Fatherland' by Paweł Pawlikowski (Oct. 23), and 'Wildwood' by Travis Knight (Oct. 23), with additional films releasing until Dec. 25. The themes explore social realism and early 20th-century gay military relationships. Mike Leigh, facing health challenges, suggested that 'Tender Loving Care' might be his final project.
