Cult of Magic's Guerrilla Gig Residency Format Debuts at Mare Culturale Urbano

other · 2026-04-26

The Cult of Magic collective, founded in 2017 by dancers Giada Vailati and Samira Cogliandro along with composer Francesco Sacco (later joined by composer and art director Luca Pasquino), has launched Guerrilla Gig, a performance residency format that culminates in a single-day show. The initiative aims to bring performance art closer to audiences by stripping away the perceived complexity of traditional theater and museum settings, operating outside market logic. The fourth edition, scheduled for December 15, 2024 at 7 PM, features artist DEM (known for wall paintings, illustrations, and canvases blending symbolic language with anthropological and nature themes). Previous residencies included choreographer Roberta Racis (September 2024), photographer Lucrezia Testa Iannilli, and musician Federica Furlani (aka effe effe). DEM's works have been exhibited at Oro Gallery in Gothenburg, PAC in Milan, Scion Installation in Los Angeles, and Apostrophe Gallery in Hong Kong. The collective has also produced a film and installations using natural materials. Guerrilla Gig takes its name from early 2000s guerrilla concerts held in non-traditional venues as a response to music industry commercialization. The event is hosted at Mare Culturale Urbano, Via Quinto Cenni 11, Milan.
