CUE Art Foundation Opens Group Exhibition 'A Thought Is a Memory'

On March 23, 2023, CUE Art Foundation in New York opened 'الفكرة ذكرى / A thought is a memory,' a group exhibition curated by Noel Maghathe through CUE's 2023 open call for curatorial projects, with mentorship from Sara Raza. The show features four artists—Zeinab Saab, Kiki Salem, Nailah Taman, and Zeina Zeitoun—who trace lineages to the Arab world. Through sculpture, photography, collage, animation, and painting, they explore hybrid Arab American identities, memory, displacement, and the interplay of fluidity and rootedness. Saab's paintings experiment with color to reclaim lost aspects of self; Salem's digital animations reimagine Palestinian textile patterns and architectural motifs; Taman's sculptures reference Etel Adnan's 'The Arab Apocalypse' and incorporate a tablecloth embroidered by her grandmother; Zeitoun's collages and films piece together fragments from visits to Lebanon. The exhibition runs through May 13, 2023, at 137 West 25th Street. Admission is free, with RSVPs encouraged for the opening reception.
