CUBO presents Alessandro Lupi's first Italian retrospective for Art City Bologna 2020

exhibition · 2026-05-04

CUBO, the corporate museum of Unipol Group, will host the first Italian retrospective of Genoese artist Alessandro Lupi as part of Art City Bologna 2020. The exhibition, titled 'One too free. Specchi, ombre, visioni,' is curated by Ilaria Bignotti and runs from January 21 to 26, 2020. It is part of the das-dialoghi artistici sperimentali program (das.03) and is also included among the main projects of Art City Bologna. The show features four site-specific installations distributed across CUBO's indoor and outdoor spaces. Lorenzo Balbi, commenting on the off-circuit program, described it as 'unparalleled on a national scale.' The exhibition's title plays with language, challenging the univocity of language and image. Lupi's work engages with themes of individuality and collectivity ('one'), multiplicity of directions ('too'), and freedom in relation to art history and criticism ('free'), referencing artists such as Olafur Eliasson and Louise Bourgeois. A public program coordinated by Federica Patti will include meetings and live performances from January 21 to 26. Additionally, Art City Bologna 2020 will pay special attention to the late painter Concetto Pozzati through a project curated by Elena Di Gioia and directed by Angela Malfitano.
