CTM-AI Blueprint Combines Conscious Turing Machine with Foundation Models

A new paper on arXiv proposes CTM-AI, a general AI system that integrates the Conscious Turing Machine (CTM) model of consciousness with existing foundation models. The system incorporates numerous processors, including specialized experts like vision-language models and APIs, alongside unspecialized general-purpose learners. For each problem, information from multiple processors is selected, integrated, and exchanged to produce a solution. The paper argues that current AI systems lack the flexibility and multisensory intelligence of human cognition, and that theories of consciousness can inspire new AI architectures. CTM-AI is presented as an early blueprint toward achieving human-like generality.
