CTF Museum to Open at Hong Kong's Victoria Dockside by 2019

institutional · 2026-05-04

The CTF Museum, a new contemporary art museum, is set to open at Victoria Dockside in Hong Kong's Kowloon peninsula, part of a $2.6 billion redevelopment of the former port into an art and design district. The museum will house the art collection of the family of Adrian Cheng, the Hong Kong-born businessman who leads New World Development and the Chow Tai Fook group. Cheng founded the K11 Art Foundation in 2010, which has collaborated with institutions such as the Serpentine Galleries, ICA London, Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Musée Marmottan Monet, the Met, Armory Show, New Museum, and MoMA. Designed by New York-based SO – IL, founded by Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu (who also designed Frieze's Randall's Island pavilion), the museum occupies the top two floors of a mixed-use building with a shopping mall and luxury residences. It features a sculpture terrace with panoramic views, a west wing with 2,000 square meters of galleries plus restaurant, café, shops, and educational spaces, and an east wing with 3,000 square meters of galleries overlooking Victoria Harbour. The facade will be wrapped in glass tubes for an abstract visual effect. Jing Liu stated that the museum's architecture, synergy between cultural and commercial life, and autonomous institutional status could create a vibrant contemporary art museum in Asia. Opening is scheduled by 2019.
