CSAR Venice launches Instagram project for Dostoevsky bicentenary

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Centro Studi sulle Arti della Russia (CSAR), promoted by Ca' Foscari University of Venice and the Russian Federation's Directorate of Film Festivals and International Programs, is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky's birth (Moscow, 1821 – St. Petersburg, 1881) with a participatory project on its Instagram page @csarvenezia. Participants are invited to record themselves reading a 60-second passage from their favorite Dostoevsky work and submit the video via email, Facebook, or Instagram. The collected videos will be compiled into a single film presented at a dedicated event on November 11, 2021. The initiative also marks CSAR's tenth anniversary; founded on March 6, 2011, it has become Western Europe's most important center for Russian art studies. CSAR continues its other digital programs: on YouTube, RUSSIA POETICA features readings of contemporary and classic Russian poets by translators, while Russian Art Walks offers virtual tours of Russian and Soviet culture led by international scholars and PhD students. PUMP UP THE VOLUME! focuses on short films and video art exploring music and sound. DANTE IN RUSSIA 700, running throughout 2021, examines Dante Alighieri's influence on Russian poetry, literature, cinema, music, theater, and painting, with biweekly stories on Instagram account Dante.in.russia.700.
