Crystal Bridges expands craft collection with major acquisitions across media

institutional · 2026-05-22

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art has significantly expanded its craft collection through new acquisitions spanning ceramics, glass, fiber, metal, and wood. The initiative, led by Windgate Curator of Craft Jen Padgett, reinforces the museum's commitment to artists grounded in skilled making and material exploration. The acquisitions highlight contemporary craft's breadth and innovation while deepening the museum's mission to present a more expansive view of American art. This expansion precedes the museum's historic building expansion designed by Safdie Architects, which will add 114,000 square feet of new space and transform visitor interaction. The new spaces open June 6 and 7, 2026.
