Critique of the New GNAMC Rome Installation: A Disastrous Rearrangement
The recent exhibition at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GNAMC) in Rome, overseen by Renata Cristina Mazzantini, has drawn severe criticism from art historian Alberto Dambruoso. He argues that the current setup is inferior to that of previous director Cristiana Collu. The main salon still showcases Collu's 19th-century artworks, positioned too high. Elements from a past Futurism exhibition, such as Lorenzo Marini's installation, appear aimless. The newly created spaces for Giacomo Balla and Umberto Boccioni are inadequately curated. The 'Sala Calder' is named after a single mobile, and Andy Warhol's area displays just one piece. Works donated by Marcel Duchamp are situated beneath a staircase, which is considered disrespectful. The installation is hampered by inadequate lighting, absent labels, and a lack of educational materials.
