Cristina Megía's 'El perro, el niño y los ojos cerrados' at MUREC Almería
The Museo del Realismo Español Contemporáneo (MUREC) in Almería presents 'El perro, el niño y los ojos cerrados', a solo exhibition by Spanish painter Cristina Megía, running from July 25 to October 18, 2026. The show features forty oil paintings, preparatory sketches, and drawings created over the past decade, selected by the artist alongside curators Juan Manuel Martín Robles and Francisco Copado Carralero. Rather than a retrospective, the exhibition traverses diverse genres—landscapes, portraits, museum interiors, and still lifes—united by Megía's desire to capture suspended moments with a cinematic quality and transform slow observation into poetic experience. Landscapes play a central role, reflecting a heightened focus on nature since the pandemic, when deserted spaces became a refuge. Megía favors solitary or abandoned sites devoid of reference points, evoking emotions through light, atmosphere, and meticulous paint handling. The title references two canvases featuring a dog and a child, rare figures in her work that symbolize a refusal to offer immediate answers, instead inviting curiosity and imagination. Influenced by Flemish painting, Sánchez Cotán, Manet, Morandi, Hopper, and Balthus, Megía has built her own voice through material treatment. She holds degrees in Art History and Fine Arts, and has previously exhibited at the Palacio de la Madraza, Palacio de los Condes de Gabia in Granada, and Galería Silvestre in Madrid.
