Cristina Kristal Rizzo's 'Toccare. The White Dance' at Torinodanza

festival-fair · 2026-04-27

Cristina Kristal Rizzo's new choreographic work 'Toccare. The White Dance', commissioned before the lockdown, premiered at Torinodanza as a response to the pandemic's constraints. The piece redefines touch as an act of resistance and liberation, rejecting authoritarian appropriation. It features dancers Annamaria Ajmone, Jari Boldrini, Sara Sguotti, Kenji Paisley-Hortensia, and Rizzo herself, alongside musicians Ruggero Laganà (harpsichord and musical direction), Antonella Bini (flute), and Elio Marchesini (percussions), who perform Baroque music by Jean-Philippe Rameau with vertical and overwhelming arrangements. Lighting design by Gianni Straropoli. The production is supported by Tir Danza with Mito Settembremusica, Torinodanza, and Milanoltre Festival. Critic Stefano Tomassini praises the work for confronting the crisis through dance, offering a lateral form of critique rather than subaltern entertainment.
