Cristina Celestino's 'Proiezioni' at Cantiere Galli Design in Rome
Cristina Celestino, born in 1980 and based in Milan after studying architecture at IUAV in Venice, has created 'Proiezioni' for the second edition of 'Una Stanza Tutta per Sé' at Cantiere Galli Design in Rome. The site-specific installation, curated by Domitilla Dardi (design curator at MAXXI Architettura), explores the theme 'personal/shared' in the age of social media. Celestino's design inverts indoor and outdoor expectations: a pale green carpet covers the ceiling, a soft balustrade ends in travertine, an outdoor deck chair is upholstered in rich capitonné velvet, and lighting comes from umbrella-shaped diffusers with brass details. References include Le Corbusier's surrealist apartment on the Champs-Élysées, 17th-century frescoed palaces, and Adolf Loos's bedroom for himself and his wife Lina. The installation opened in February 2017 at Cantiere Galli Design, a multifunctional space combining showroom, materials library, and bookshop, launched by Eleonora Galli as an offshoot of Edil Mostra Galli. The first designer was Giuseppe Arezzi. Celestino, known for collaborations with Fendi and Bottega Nove and her brand Attico, describes her work as a translation of intimate reflection into design language, creating a dreamlike space where domestic intimacy borders on an infinite starred exterior.
