Cristiano Godano's 'Nuotando nell'aria' blurs music and literature at Contemporary Cluster

publication · 2026-04-27

Cristiano Godano, frontman of the Italian band Marlene Kuntz, has published his second book, 'Nuotando nell’aria' (La nave di Teseo, 2019, €18). The book was presented at Contemporary Cluster in Rome, a hybrid cultural space named by Artribune as the most interesting in Rome last year. Godano inaugurated Cluster Unplugged, a format where musicians perform readings tied to their literary inspirations. The book is structured as a diary: each chapter recounts an album, each paragraph a song, with titles like 'Catartica,' 'Il Vile,' and 'Ho ucciso Paranoia.' It includes handwritten lyrics on paper from Cassa di Risparmio di Saluzzo and a list of potential titles for 'Ho ucciso Paranoia.' Godano describes constraints as helpful for creation. He also discusses Ken Loach's latest film, criticizes mainstream art practices, and expresses faith in young musicians under 20. He teaches at Università Cattolica di Milano. The book covers Italian artistic history from 1989 onward, blending factory culture with escapism. Clara Tosi Pamphili wrote the article.
