Cristiana Perrella to Curate Panorama 2023 in L'Aquila
Lorenzo Fiaschi, president of the Italics consortium, announced that Cristiana Perrella, former director of the Museo Pecci in Prato, will curate the 2023 edition of Panorama. The itinerant art fair, after editions in Procida and Monopoli, is expected to take place in L'Aquila, the city devastated by the 2009 earthquake and now undergoing reconstruction. The city also hosts a branch of the MAXXI museum. Perrella, a curator with no prior market experience, will face the challenge of engaging with a complex urban renewal process. During a talk in Monopoli, Vincenzo de Bellis, who curated the first two editions, emphasized the need for more time to involve local communities before future events. Italics also donated a catalog archive to the Rendella Library in Monopoli. In an interview, Perrella stated she prefers to approach Panorama without preconceived ideas, focusing on new productions and maintaining the project's hybrid nature that blends art, public space, and territorial valorization. She confirmed that if L'Aquila is confirmed, MAXXI L'Aquila would be a dialogue partner but not an exhibition venue, as Panorama aims to explore lesser-known city spaces.
