Cristian Chironi's New York Drive and Drivers Projects
Since 2021, Cristian Chironi, an Italian artist born in 1974 in Orani, Nuoro, has been showcasing his performance series titled New York Drive in New York, in partnership with Magazzino Italian Art. This series features a Fiat 127 Special that belonged to the Sardinian artist Costantino Nivola (1911–1988), who resided in New York with Ruth Guggenheim. Known as "Chameleon," Nivola's vehicle facilitated guided tours linking his Springs residence to the Italian Consulate, the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, the UN, and Magazzino, with co-pilots from diverse professions. Video documentation of New York Drive is currently displayed at Morton Street Partners until August 13, 2022, alongside the hybrid exhibition Drivers featuring American artist Dan Devine.
