Cristian Ceresoli's 'La merda' Continues Global Tour After Edinburgh Triumph

Cristian Ceresoli's play 'La merda', which won the Fringe First Award for Writing Excellence at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival, continues its international tour. Performed by Silvia Gallerano, who also won The Stage Award for Acting Excellence, the production has toured across continents from Edinburgh to Copenhagen, Rome, Madrid, São Paulo, Milan, Glasgow, Berlin, Vilnius, Adelaide, and London's West End, achieving four consecutive years of sold-out shows. The performance evolves with each staging, adapting to intimate spaces and large theaters alike. In its latest Italian tour, the play was performed in non-traditional venues, confronting latent censorship. Gallerano describes her performance as an intense dialogue with the audience, whose reactions—laughter, sighs, emotions—shape the interpretation. The play features a nude protagonist, a young woman who embodies purity amidst social corruption, using visceral language to provoke and challenge. The work is seen as a cathartic experience, ending with a song of hope. The tour continues to San Francisco and Vancouver.
