Cristallina Fischetti's 'Alchemea' Opens at St Marylebone Crypt
Cristallina Fischetti's solo exhibition 'Alchemea' runs from 25 April to 18 May 2026 at the Art Centre in the crypt of St Marylebone Parish Church, London. The show presents ten works from the first two acts of a planned 33-painting cycle titled 'Alchemea', which draws on alchemical symbolism, feminist cosmologies, and ecological thought. Fischetti uses unorthodox materials including coffee, wine, plastic, and leather, referencing her multicultural heritage and healing practices. Her process involves dancing the paintings into being on the floor, combining ballet, yoga, alchemy, tarot, and mystical healing. The exhibition includes 'Reliquia per Veronica', a personal work commemorating her best friend who died of breast cancer, incorporating purple and lilac colors and a Gucci scarf with rose petals. Fischetti runs the spiritual practice 'Abstract Medicine' and cites influences such as Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, and Hilma af Klint. The full cycle progresses through five stages: Nigredo, Solutio, Purificatio, Coniunctio, and Rubedo. An hour-long interview with Fischetti is available on the 'Who ARTed' podcast.
