Crisis at La Nouvelle Quinzaine littéraire: editorial team ousted

The editorial direction of La Nouvelle Quinzaine littéraire, the French literary journal founded by Maurice Nadeau in 1966, has been abruptly dismissed by the managing director Patricia De Pas. On October 1, 2015, the upcoming issue was prepared without the participation of the editorial board, which had been collectively chosen by the contributors after Nadeau's death in 2013. De Pas announced a global restructuring, evicted the editorial team (Jean Lacoste, Pierre Pachet, Tiphaine Samoyault), planned an imminent move to premises linked to Paris II Assas University, and terminated the collaboration with Hugo Pradelle, one of the few paid positions. Contributors, meeting on September 30, expressed concern over the speed and violence of these changes and reaffirmed support for the collegial direction. De Pas, who took over the bankrupt company's assets in 2013 and is the majority shareholder, had previously limited herself to administrative and commercial management but now intends to intervene personally in editorial content. The collective of contributors plans to react against procedures that break with the collaborative spirit established under Nadeau and with De Pas's earlier promises of transparent management.
