Cremona's Roman Frescoes and Contemporary Art Week

Cremona, a city in Lombardy with roots tracing back to ancient times, reveals its Roman heritage through frescoed domus unearthed in Piazza Marconi in 2002. The Museo del Violino is currently hosting the exhibition 'Pictura Tacitum poema' (running until May 21), showcasing restored pieces from the Stanza di Arianna and the domus dei Candelabri dorati. Notable landmarks in the historic center include the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the baptistery, and the Loggia dei Militi. The Museo Civico Ala Ponzone features artworks spanning from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, including Caravaggio's 'San Francesco in meditazione'. Instruments by Amati, Guarneri, and Stradivari can be found at the Museo del Violino. The former church of San Carlo e Donnino reopened as a contemporary art venue in September 2021. Cremona's inaugural Contemporary Art Week is scheduled for May 27 to June 4, 2023. The city's culinary scene boasts historic establishments like Sperlari (founded in 1836), with recommended dining spots including Osteria Pane e Salame and Trattoria La Resca.
