Creative Time Unveils Political Artist Flags in New York

Creative Time, a New York public art institution, has launched 'Pledge of Allegiance', a project featuring 16 artist-designed flags with political messages. The flags are flown atop its headquarters at 59 East 4th St. in Manhattan. Participating artists include Tania Bruguera, Jeremy Deller, Yoko Ono, Pedro Reyes, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Nari Ward, Vik Muniz, Ann Hamilton, Robert Longo, and Marilyn Minter. The initiative aims to create a space for reflection on the current political climate, particularly following Donald Trump's election. Deller's flag reads 'Don't worry, be angry', while Ward's references Jamaican activist Marcus Garvey. Creative Time director Nato Thompson stated the need for a permanent space to resist, not in opposition but in support of a symbol. The project seeks to inspire community among cultural institutions, with each artist addressing a cause they are passionate about.
