Cracking Art redesigns Telegatto statuette for sustainable era

award · 2026-04-27

The iconic Telegatto award, Italy's Gran Premio Internazionale dello Spettacolo, returns with a contemporary makeover by the Cracking Art movement. Founded in 1993, Cracking Art creates colorful animal sculptures from recycled plastic, emphasizing social and environmental commitment. The new statuette comes in blue, yellow, and fuchsia, made from regenerated materials. Announced by weekly TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, the award abandons its traditional gala and gold-plated bronze figurine for a social-media-friendly, sustainable design. Director Aldo Vitali stated the prize now evolves into a year-round recognition of merit, reflecting changes in entertainment with digital and streaming platforms. The first recipient is rock star Vasco Rossi, featured on the magazine's cover. The Telegatto originally defined Italian television and pop culture in the 1980s and 1990s.
