Costantino D'Orazio on Leading Italy's Contemporary Creativity Directorate

Costantino D'Orazio, 52, has been appointed Director General for Contemporary Creativity at Italy's Ministry of Culture, succeeding Angelo Piero Cappello. In an interview with Artribune after his first month, D'Orazio outlined his vision for the directorate, which oversees contemporary art, architecture, photography, design, fashion, creative enterprises, and urban regeneration. He emphasized continuity with existing programs like Italian Council and the Contemporary Art Plan, while seeking to strengthen strategic coordination. D'Orazio highlighted collaboration with Minister Alessandro Giuli and Department Head Massimo Osanna to develop new guidelines, improve public engagement, and integrate contemporary art into school curricula. He also discussed plans for a major urban regeneration event, enhanced support for photography, and the role of the Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. D'Orazio brings experience from directing museums in Umbria and as a curator and broadcaster.
