Coşkun Aşar's Blackout Series on View at Palazzo Bisaccioni

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Jesi presents a selection of photographs from Coşkun Aşar's series 'Blackout – The dark side of Istanbul' at Palazzo Bisaccioni. The exhibition follows an agreement with the Comune di Senigallia. Aşar, born in 1974, grew up and studied in Istanbul. He began photography in 1995 while studying cinema and attended the World Press Photo seminar in Turkey for three consecutive years starting in 2002. His work focuses on marginalization, poverty, and gender issues in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, a historic neighborhood that comes alive at night. Aşar is considered a representative of new international street photography and a student of Ara Güler. The exhibition aims to highlight social change, urban transformation, and gentrification. Aşar gained trust among children, gang members, prostitutes, and the transgender community to document their lives. The series is also published as a book. The exhibition runs at Palazzo Bisaccioni in Jesi.
