COS and Studio Swine Create Ephemeral Installation for Salone del Mobile 2017
For the 2017 Salone del Mobile, fashion brand COS invited London-based Studio Swine, the duo of Japanese architect Azusa Murakami and English artist Alexander Groves, to create an ephemeral installation in Milan's disused Cinema Arti. The installation, a large sculpture of modular aluminum elements that blooms with water vapor buds, is inspired by Milan's modern architecture and Murano glass chandeliers. It aims to offer a moment of contemplation amid the frenzy of Fuori Salone, using minimal environmental impact. Studio Swine is known for sustainable design, experimenting with unconventional materials like hair and resin for combs and ocean plastic for stools. The installation exists only for the duration of the fair, designed to disappear without a trace. COS has a history of commissioning installations for Milan Design Week since 2012, starting with a pop-up store by Gary Card.
