festival-fair · 2026-04-27

The 13th edition of the Cortona International Photography Festival, now in its second year under directors Paolo Woods and Veronica Nicolardi, opened in mid-July with 5,000 visitors. The festival runs until early October in Cortona, Tuscany. Titled 'Cortona On The Move,' it presents 26 exhibitions unified by the theme of social injustice and the growing gap between wealth and poverty, consumerism and misery, abundance and scarcity. Featured photographers include Larry Fink (New York, 1941) with his black-and-white VIP party scenes, Chauncey Hare (New York, 1934 – California, 2019) showing domestic portraits of the American middle class for the first time in Italy, Barbara Iweins (Brussels, 1974) who catalogued 12,795 objects in her home to reflect consumer obsession, Irina Werning (Buenos Aires, 1976) addressing Argentina's 80% inflation rate, Zed Nelson (Kampala, 1966) with an image of a gorilla in a fake forest, and Marco Zanella (Parma, 1984), winner of the Ponchielli prize, presenting 'Scalandré' with poetic shots of the land. The festival also covers hip-hop and trap as expressions of social redemption in 'Get rich or die tryin'.'
