Cortona On The Move 2024: Body of Evidence explores the body through photography

The 14th edition of Cortona On The Move, a photography festival in the medieval Tuscan town of Cortona, runs from July 11 to November 3, 2024. Under the second year of direction by Paolo Woods and Veronica Nicolardi, the festival attracted 26,000 visitors in 2023. This year's theme is "Body of Evidence," featuring 22 exhibitions (4 group, 18 solo) across 6 venues. New additions include an extended run to November and a children's exhibition aimed at fostering image literacy. The festival was founded in 2011 by Associazione Culturale ONTHEMOVE. Artistic director Paolo Woods, joined by the Kublaiklan collective, notes that the body has been a central subject of photography since its inception. A commissioned exhibition by Cesura collective, "Cronache d’acqua – Immagini dal Nord Italia," is produced in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo and Gallerie d’Italia. Michele Coppola, Executive Director of Intesa Sanpaolo, highlights a project with Green&Blue on climate change. The festival collaborates with Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia, showcasing Rita Scartoni's iconographic research, and presents an architectural work by Gabriele Basilico. Niccolò Rastrelli's "They Don’t Look Like Me" explores cosplay in Italy, Kenya, and Japan, supported by Autolinee Toscane. New venue Palazzo Casali joins returning sites like Fortezza del Girifalco.
