publication · 2026-04-27

A new Corto Maltese graphic novel, 'Nocturnes berlinois', will be released in France on September 7, 2022, by Casterman. This is the 34th volume of the series created by Hugo Pratt. The story is set in Berlin in 1924, during the collapse of the Weimar Republic, as Corto investigates the murder of his friend Steiner. The book is authored by Spanish duo Juan Díaz Canales and Rubén Pellejero, who previously wrote three Corto Maltese stories: 'Sotto il sole di mezzanotte' (2015), 'Equatoria' (2017), and 'Il giorno di Tarowean' (2019). The new volume follows 'Oceano nero' (2021), which was written by Martin Quenehen and illustrated by Bastien Vivès. 'Nocturnes berlinois' will be published in three editions: a standard color edition, a black-and-white edition, and a deluxe edition priced around €150. An Italian edition is expected to be released simultaneously, though details are not yet confirmed. The series began in 1967 with 'Una ballata del mare salato' and includes 33 stories published over six decades.
