Corraini Gallery Transforms Bookstore into Art Project
At the Milan location of Libreria 121+ on via Savona 17, the exhibition 'Casa, studio, libreria' (until April 7) reimagines the bookstore as a malleable space for books, installations, and design objects. Curated by Giuseppe De Mattia, the show pays homage to Bruno Munari and Mimmo Conenna. The centerpiece is Munari's 'Abitacolo,' a multitasking object from 1971 originally produced by Robots S.p.a., combining a bed, desk, and storage. De Mattia recreates the metal shelving structure, framing a cot on the floor, and populates it with notes, images, and utilitarian objects. The installation includes De Mattia's own works, such as '10 lanci di fascia elastica'—simple perimeters drawn on paper, traces of elastic band launches from a wooden rifle. The project also features works by Conenna from the Corraini Archive, and De Mattia's series 'Oggetti poveri e 7 forme semplici' using humble materials like cardboard, sandpaper, ink, and olive oil. New pieces from the 'Calypsonian' series show photographs framed by colored pendants, referencing discarded items and future works, including 'Strumenti per disegnare onde sul cemento fresco,' a tribute to Munari's expressive forks.
