Corrado Cagli retrospective at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-04

A significant retrospective dedicated to Corrado Cagli (1910–1976) has commenced at Palazzo Cipolla in Rome, under the curation of Giuseppe Briguglio, who is the President of the Archivio Cagli. Showcasing approximately two hundred pieces from the 1930s through the 1970s, the exhibition emphasizes Cagli's artistic journey, including his establishment of the Gruppo dei Nuovi Pittori Romani in 1932. Cagli's art, influenced by Massimo Bontempelli, embodies tonalism and primordio. His mural 'La corsa del Berberi' (1935) is displayed at Castel De' Cesari. In 1938, due to racial laws, Cagli, a Jewish artist, fled Italy and later joined the U.S. Army. The exhibition also features works reflecting his fascination with mathematics and non-Euclidean geometry. The last retrospective in Rome took place in 1999.
