Corrado Bonomi's 'Acque Chete' at Milan's Acquario Civico

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Milan's Acquario Civico hosts 'Acque Chete,' a solo exhibition by Corrado Bonomi (born 1956, Novara), from January 19 to February 26. Curated by Alberto Fiz, the show presents 20 works including paintings, sculptures, and installations, spanning from 1987 to the present. Bonomi, a key figure in Concettualismo Ironico, uses irony as a defense mechanism. The exhibition entrance is through a site-specific installation, 'Ventre della balena' (Whale's Belly). Inside, 'Nuovi Arrivi' depicts a sperm whale carrying migrants on its back. 'Mare nostrum' invites visitors to fish objects from a simulated Mediterranean. 'Scatolette di Mare' features tuna cans painted with aquatic animals, a series started in 1987. Irreverent homages include 'Navigar nel periglioso mar delle avanguardie' referencing Duchamp's urinal, an Arcimboldo-like assemblage of plastic marine creatures, and a miniature Monet painting on a water lily leaf. The exhibition explores themes of diversity and sustainability through irony.
