Corinne Mercadier's Photographic Palimpsests at Galerie Les Filles du calvaire

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Corinne Mercadier's exhibition at Galerie Les Filles du calvaire in Paris (October 14–November 17, 2007) presented her recent photographic series from 2005–2007, including 'Longue Distance' and the triptych 'Le Huit envolé'. Since the early 1990s, Mercadier has used Polaroid to photograph paintings on glass, then re-photographed them, creating layered temporalities. The show was the final installment of five exhibitions, accompanied by a monograph published by Filigranes. Works like the diptych 'Annonce' (2005–07) and triptych 'Carré lunaire' (2005–07) evoke mystery between the symbolic and cinematic. 'Le Huit envolé' (2007), a photographic retable, was commissioned by association L'Empreinte for the octagon of the Hôtel-Dieu in Montmorillon. The gallery also featured painting, video, and installation. Michelle Debat reviewed the exhibition for artpress.
