Copenhagen to launch contemporary art triennial in 2027

Copenhagen is gearing up for its first contemporary art triennial, which is scheduled to kick off in 2027. This exciting venture follows a 2023 decision by the City of Copenhagen to allocate DKK 50 million toward this major art initiative. The Triennial Association, co-founded by the city, has tapped Creator Projects, a local art agency, to take the helm as artistic director. Creator Projects has a strong track record, having overseen high-profile commissions like Alicja Kwade's Matter of Void in Horsens (2025), Alexander Tovborg at Kunsthal Charlottenborg (2023), and Pierre Huyghe at the Espoo Museum of Modern Art. Simon Friese, the director of Creator Projects, highlighted the growing enthusiasm for art in the Nordic region and expressed a desire to work closely with artists and cultural institutions in Copenhagen.
