Copenhagen's Summer 2022 Art Scene: From Gauguin to Light and Space

Copenhagen's summer 2022 art scene features multiple major exhibitions. The renovated Designmuseum Copenhagen reopened in June after a two-year renovation by OEO Studio, inspired by Kaare Klint's original 1920s design. The museum presents eight exhibitions, including 'The Future is Present' (until June 2023) exploring design's role in addressing climate change, migration, and public health, and 'The Magic of Form' (until August 20, 2023) tracing Danish design history. At Glyptoteket, a new acquisition by Paul Gauguin, 'La Neige à Copenhague' (1884), is on view until August 28 in the exhibition 'Paul Gauguin and the Danish Connection,' which also highlights Mette Gauguin's career as an artist and art impresario. GL Strand hosts a solo show of South African photographer Zanele Muholi until September 4, featuring over 100 works addressing racism and LGBTQIA+ rights. Copenhagen Contemporary presents 'Light and Space' until September 4, tracing the Californian movement from the 1960s with works by Robert Irwin, James Turrell, and others, alongside contemporary European artists like Anish Kapoor and Olafur Eliasson. The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk features Dorothy Iannone until September 11, focusing on ecstatic harmony in love and sexuality. Arken Museum of Modern Art in Ishøj holds a retrospective of Else Alfelt until September 18, alongside 'From the Earth' with Silas Inoue and Nina Nowak until September 25.
