Copenhagen's Art Scene Explodes with New CC Space and Major Exhibitions
Copenhagen is gearing up for an exciting two weeks as the new CC (Copenhagen Contemporary) venue opens alongside the Art Copenhagen fair, scheduled for August 26–28. Under the direction of Jens Erik Sørensen, CC emerged from a 2015 initiative aimed at revitalizing the 'paper hall' on Paper Island for an 18-month period beginning in late June 2017. This expansive 3,400 sqm industrial site will feature exhibitions, performances, and events, created in collaboration with Copenhagen Street Food and Copenhagen Art Week to enhance the port area. The opening will showcase installations by Carsten Nicolai, Pettersen & Hein, and Yoko Ono, with Bruce Nauman's works, including Green Light Corridor (1970) and Raw Material, BRRR (1990), added later in August. Nauman's solo exhibition, debuting on August 25, will also include his dialogue with Ragnar Kjartansson's A Lot of Sorrow (2013) and Scenes from Western Culture (2015). Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Art Copenhagen is Scandinavia's largest fair, complemented by the Selected Art Fair and Code Art Fair, which highlight innovative and emerging art. From August 26 to September 4, CC will introduce Art Bar featuring DJ sets and performances, leading into a vibrant Copenhagen Art Week that includes a film program dedicated to Mike Kelley.
